DUST 1

Dust 1 tea from Sri Lanka is a fine-grade black tea produced using the CTC (Cut, Tear, Curl) method. It consists of the smallest tea particles, which brew quickly and yield a strong, full-bodied cup with a dark reddish liquor. This tea is widely used in tea bags and for making traditional spiced teas like masala chai due to its bold flavor and quick infusion.

  • Strength: Dust 1 tea delivers a robust and intense flavor, making it ideal for those who enjoy a strong cup of tea.
  • Quick Brewing: Its fine particles allow for rapid infusion, making it convenient for busy tea drinkers.
  • Versatility: Often used in blends or spiced teas, it is a popular choice for households and commercial use.
  • Measure Tea Leaves: Use approximately 1 teaspoon (2-3 grams) of Dust 1 tea per cup (240 ml) of water. Adjust the quantity for a stronger or milder brew.
  • Boil the Water: Heat fresh water to a rolling boil (95–100°C or 203–212°F). The high temperature ensures the quick release of Dust 1 tea’s rich flavor.
  • Add the Tea: Place the tea leaves in a teapot, infuser or directly in the cup. Pour the boiling water over the leaves.
  • Steep the Leaves: Let the tea steep for 1-2 minutes. Due to the small size of Dust 1 particles, the infusion is quick and strong. For a milder flavor, use a shorter steeping time.
  • Strain and Serve: Remove the tea leaves or strain the tea into your cup. The liquor will be dark, rich and aromatic.
  • Optional Additions: Dust 1 tea is often enjoyed with milk and sugar, especially for making chai or traditional milk tea. You can also add spices like cardamom, ginger or cinnamon for a spiced version.
  • Savory Snacks: Spicy samosas, pakoras or savory biscuits enhance the tea's boldness.
  • Sweet Treats: Butter cookies, chocolate cake or fruit tarts provide a delightful contrast to the tea's strength.
  • Breakfast Foods: Toast with jam, scrambled eggs or even a hearty English breakfast pairs beautifully with Dust 1 tea.
