FBOP

FBOP or Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe is a popular grade of Ceylon black tea from Sri Lanka. It is characterized by its broken leaves that are slightly wiry and twisted, often containing a sprinkling of silvery tips. This tea grade is known for its quick brewing and rich aromatic profile.

When brewed, FBOP tea produces a reddish liquor with a mellow and flavorful taste. It is a versatile tea that can be enjoyed plain or with milk, making it a favorite for both casual tea drinkers and connoisseurs.

  • Measure Tea Leaves: Use about 1 teaspoon (2-3 grams) of FBOP tea per cup (240 ml) of water. Adjust according to your preference for strength.
  • Heat the Water: Bring water to a boil (around 95–100°C or 203–212°F). Since FBOP tea consists of broken leaves, the hot water extracts its flavor efficiently.
  • Steep the Leaves: Place the tea leaves in a teapot, infuser or directly in your cup. Pour the hot water over the leaves and let them steep for 2-4 minutes. Shorter steeping creates a lighter brew, while longer steeping produces a stronger, fuller flavor.
  • Optional Additions: FBOP tea is versatile! It can be enjoyed plain or with milk, sugar or honey for added richness.

FBOP tea pairs wonderfully with:

  • Sweet Treats: Chocolate pastries, caramel cookies, fruit cakes or banana bread.
  • Savory Snack: Light sandwiches, Puff pastry rolls, mild cheese or roasted nuts.
  • Spicy Options: Gingerbread, cinnamon rolls or spiced biscuits.
  • Breakfast Foods: Buttered toast, scrambled eggs or even a hearty English breakfast.
  • Fruits: Dried fruits like apricots or figs, as well as fresh citrus fruits.
