FBOP1

FBOP1 or Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe 1, is a grade of Ceylon black tea from Sri Lanka. It is part of the Orange Pekoe grading system and is known for its broken leaves that are slightly smaller and more refined than standard FBOP tea. FBOP1 tea often includes a few silvery tips, which enhance its visual appeal and flavor profile.

When brewed, FBOP1 tea produces a bright reddish liquor with a smooth, full-bodied flavor. It is slightly stronger than whole-leaf grades like OP or OP1, making it a popular choice for those who enjoy a robust cup of tea. This tea is versatile and can be enjoyed plain or with milk and sugar.

  • Measure Tea Leaves: Use around 1 teaspoon (2-3 grams) of FBOP1 tea per cup (240 ml) of water. You can adjust the quantity if you prefer a stronger or lighter brew.
  • Heat the Water: Boil fresh water to a temperature of around 95–100°C (203–212°F). Since FBOP1 tea has broken leaves, the high temperature helps to extract its full flavor.
  • Steep the Tea: Add the tea leaves to a teapot, infuser or your cup. Pour the hot water over the leaves and let them steep for 2-4 minutes. The shorter steep time will yield a lighter flavor, while the longer time will produce a bolder, fuller-bodied cup.
  • Strain and Serve: Remove the leaves by straining the tea into a cup or simply lift the infuser. You’ll notice a bright reddish liquor with a rich aroma.
  • Optional Additions: FBOP1 tea is versatile and can be enjoyed plain or with a splash of milk, a bit of sugar or a drizzle of honey.

FBOP1 tea, with its rich and robust flavor, pairs wonderfully with a variety of snacks and dishes. Here are some ideas to complement its bold profile:

Sweet Pairings:

  • Chocolate Treats: Dark chocolate truffles or chocolate-dipped biscuits bring out the tea’s deep, earthy notes.
  • Fruity Desserts: Apple pie, berry tarts or citrus cakes add a refreshing sweetness that balances the tea’s strength.
  • Caramel Pastries: Caramelized pastries or toffee-flavored snacks pair harmoniously with the tea’s boldness.

Savory Pairings:

  • Spiced Nuts: Roasted almonds or cashews with a hint of spice work well with FBOP1’s warm undertones.
  • Sandwiches: Lightly seasoned cucumber or chicken sandwiches provide a savory contrast without overpowering the tea.
  • Cheese Pairings: Mild and creamy cheeses like Brie or Gouda enhance the tea’s smooth finish.

Fruity Accents:

  • Dried Fruits: Apricots, raisins or figs offer natural sweetness that complements the tea’s richness.
  • Citrus Slices: A wedge of orange or a slice of lemon can brighten the tea’s flavor with zesty accents.
